NDIS support
Supported Independent Living
Support at home, from a few hours a week to around the clock care.
What it is
In plain language
Supported Independent Living, often shortened to SIL, is help with the everyday parts of living at home. It covers the routines that keep a household running and the personal support that goes with them, delivered in a shared house with other residents or in a home of your own.
The amount of support is set by you and your plan. Some people want a worker for a few hours in the morning and evening. Others need someone on site at all times, including overnight. Both are Supported Independent Living, and the level can move up or down as things change.
Our focus is on building your independence over time. Workers do things with you rather than for you wherever that is safe and wanted, so skills grow and support can step back when you are ready.
What this can include
Examples of the support
Support is always tailored, so your plan may include some of these, all of them, or something different again.
- Help with daily routines such as getting up, meals, medication prompts and getting ready for the day
- Personal care delivered privately and respectfully
- Support to run the household, including shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry
- Shared living arrangements with compatible housemates, or support in your own individual home
- Overnight support, either active or sleepover, where it is needed
- Help to keep appointments, stay connected with family and take part in things you enjoy
- Support that grows or reduces as your needs and confidence change
